Science and technology are developing continuously, society is progressingconstantly. The standards of people’s living are improving, at the same time the cost ofliving is also increasing, the competition exists in all walks of life becomes more andworse. With the extensive use of high technology in the field of transport andcommunications, more countries join the WTO; the entire planet has been one unifiedmarket. Each company must keep the use of advanced technology to improve productquality and increase production efficiency to keep the advanced position. For largeand medium-sized enterprises, the technical force and funds are relatively strong, theirmeasuring equipment are also advanced. For small enterprises in short of manpower, resources and funds, their measurement equipment is relatively backward. Some smallbusinesses still use the manual way to test the electrical function of the electronicproducts; this way is inefficient and error-prone. With automatic test equipmentproduct quality and test speed will be improved greatly, finally that will improveproduction efficiency, reduce product costs, and ultimately improve thecompetitiveness of enterprises. This article discusses the software and hardware design issues of automatic testsystems used in some current small enterprises based on the practice. There are somany of electronic products, and each has different functions, the required parametersof these products are different. But all electronic products have some commoncharacters, for example, the operating voltage, operating current, sleep current and themagnification ability of the amplifier circuit, anti-interference ability and the clockfrequency characteristics. The various parameters of all electronic products areultimately converted to current and voltage to measure, the main difference is using adifferent conversion device to convert the parameters. This article discusses how toset up the automatic test system to measure these parameters. This paper uses amodular design; the main module consists of three parts: a front-end data acquisitionmodule, test interface, data retention module that means a database. Each module can be broken down into different sub-modules; these modules cooperate to accomplishthe required tasks. The data acquisition module mainly consists of microcontroller, and equipped with a digital-to-analog or analog-to-digital converter to sample therequired test parameters, then the test results obtained are sent back to the computerwith the USB interface. The test interface software is written in VC++environment, which mainly display test results, set the test parameters, diagnostic data acquisitionmodule, print the test results, finally the test results are sent to the database and storethere. The database system is Access database, it has the similar interface with WORDand other common software interface, and it is easy to operate, it has an affordableprice, it is a good choice for small businesses to use access as database. After testresults are stored in the database this way facilitate data sharing and it is easy to passthe result to the right personnel, or grant different database access permissions todifferent people. Using different software to analyze the data stored in the databaseto identify the trend of test data distribution in order to improve product quality andincrease production efficiency. This paper details a variety of techniques and methods used in the system designand implementation based on requirement analysis, outline design, detailed design ofsoftware engineering, and the characteristics of the automatic test system.
