Research On The Language Application Of The Newspaper Sports News

Studying the sports news in linguistics terms has started to attract more and moreattention of experts and scholars. Nevertheless, this kind of research starts rather late, so themonograph has been still blank and most of the researches appear alone, as a result ofwhich, it is necessary to study it further and improve it.The particularity of the sports news determines that the language of sports news has itsdistinct characteristics. This paper takes the sports pages of Sports Weekly, Sports Press,Liao Shen Evening during Guangzhou Asian Games as the main research object and adoptsdocumentary analysis method, expert interview method, content analysis method andcomparative analysis method to analyze and study the vocabulary usage, grammaticalfeatures, sentences pattern choice and organizational principles comprehensively inlinguistics terms.As for vocabulary selection, sports news will use a large number of military idioms,color words, quantifiers, new words, rhetoric words and widely used oral common sayings;as for grammar application, sports news will often use the supernormal words collocation toget the unexpected results; as for the sentences pattern choice, sports news will adopt acombination of different patterns to avoid monotonous report form and boring meaning.The research on the sports news is divided into two aspects: when choosing the textualtheme, offense players, victor players and native players will be played in the themeposition; in the aspect of thematic progression mode, sports news usually use parallel mode,link mode and juxtaposing mode, in order to reflect the features of the sports, such ascontinuity, opposability and variety.Sports news has a violent trend in the whole language style; sports news has a phenomenonthat it excessively pursues the avant-garde language; sports news discourse focuses on suchthemes as the match results, attack, victory, patriotism and fight, which reflects sports newsput too much attention on competitive sports from another aspect.Based on this, it is suggested that the authority department of sports print media shallstrengthen supervision and management, emphasize cultivating the professional quality ofsports news personnel, restrain the spread of violent language style; In addition, it is alsorecommended that sports news print media shall shoulder the responsibility to educate and guide the sports news media, purify the pollution problems in the language usage of sportsnews rather than just cater to readers’ curiosity.
