Newspaper Discourse Analysis

According to a comprehensive survey of research about news discourse, most of them focused on one aspect, such as themes and books about news writing and writing style which were about language rule of news discourse. As for critical research of news discourse, they emphasized relationships between news discourse and ideology instead of cognition of social functions, say social knowledge, social communications and social power on cultural angle. As intersection of language system and social environment, research about news discourse should not be stressed on one point, because they are not independent, but having mutual influence.There are some differences between news discourse styles of works of Chinese Journalism Prize and Pulitzer's. Taking language tactic rules for example, works of Pulitzer Prize use direct quote maturely, but there are only a few of them in Chinese works. As for subject, Chinese Journalism Prize pays more attention to meaningful political ones, while it is catastrophe, conspiracy and corruption that are appearing on Pulitzer's works.However, both of them contribute to social knowledge, social educations and social communications. That means they have the same purpose of creating a harmonious environment to advance well development of the society. Just like what this theme wanted to illustrate that "bad news makes civilians awake according to exposures of corruption, crimes, immorality and inhumanity, while good news advocates integrity and kindness in social life which encourage people to do what is right." They both reflect what mediator value and reflect the same pursuit of a beautiful world.
