| The paper analyzes how the People’s Daily makes use of intertextuality as a kind of language resources and tactics to construct the image of China. The language materials of this paper are selected from reports of People’s Daily about economy during the financial crisis. This paper takes textual intertextuality as an analyzing starting point and integrates quantitative and qualitative analyzing methods. Based on the analysis, this paper jumps to the conclusion that textual intertextuality is one of the important language resources which can be used to construct news reports, express views and create nation image to reach the goals of news reports.This paper includes five chapters. The brief introduction of each chapter is as follows:Chapter1is the Introduction. Firstly, it introduces the origin and background of the paper and elaborates the research subject and situation. Finally, it explains the corpus and the selecting process.Chapter2is explanation of theory and methods. Based on the essence and character of research object, constructivism is selected as theoretical basis and textual intertextuality as research subject. Chapter2explains the definition, type and content of intertextuality and elaborates its effect in nation image construction. The general analyzing route of this paper are two:one is to analyze Report, which is typical performance of Manifest Intertextuality while the other one is to analyze Topic Intertextuality, which is typical performance of Constitutive Intertextuality. According to the analysis, this paper hope to reveal how intertextuality, as an important language resource, is used in news reports to construct nation image.Chapter3mainly includes general sample analysis. Focusing on the two basic issues in nation image construction, namely constructing some kind image and making it trustworthy, it analyzes some factors of report, such as news sources, reporting verbs and ways of report with quantitative and qualitative methods. It jumps the conclusion that report in an important language resources in nation image construction.Chapter4is individual sample analysis. The focus of this chapter is Topic Intertextuality. It selects news reports texts from China Daily and New York Times and analyzes several relations including echoing, supporting and contradicting among these texts. It reveals Topic Intertextuality is also an useful resource in nation image construction, which can make the construction effective and hard to detect.Chapter5is final conclusion of the paper. It concludes methods and opinions of this paper. Furthermore, it reflects the issue of nation image construction and point out the value of the research. |
