| Reading refers to the understanding, applying and rethinking the process of written material of students in order to achieve the personal goals, form the personal knowledge and potential and participate in social activities. It is the integrated embodiment of reading interest, reading habits and reading ability of students. Reading interest is a process of a kind of active learning behavior of reading materials as well as a kind of enjoyment. Reading habits is a kind of force that promoting or hindering the speed of reading or reading comprehension level during the reading, which is formed unconsciously and influenced the physical and mental development of students. Reading ability, a complex system which consisting of a number of factors, is the ability the readers getting on the reading activity smoothly by using their own knowledge experience and skills, which is the sum of the psychological characteristics of completing the complex reading task. The reading ability structure of the elementary school students mainly includes the ability of cognitive interpretation of the contents text; the ability of understanding the contents of the text; the ability of appreciating the contents of the text and the reading efficiency of the contents of the text. Based on the survey, the reading ability of the fourth grade in the primary school is still at a low level. Taking the X primary school as an example, the author starts the active research on how to promote the reading of the grade four.The paper summarizes the necessity and the significance of this research. It expounds the current research situation about the development of reading from the dimensionality of reading interest, the gap between the current reading situation and the goal and the reading ability. It also illustrates the goal and the method of this reading behavioral research and explains the relevant theory which supported it. The paper studies the problems existing in students’reading which hindering them from improving their reading ability accordingly. In addition, it unfolds the targeted action according to the cause of hindering the promotion of students reading ability, which mainly actively intervened from three aspects------setting the reading purpose, creating the reading environment and carrying on the reading guidance. Last, give an effective analysis from the changes of students reading interests, reading habits and reading ability, which based on the action research plan that have been implemented.In this study, in order to apply this plan to the more extensive extracurricular reading teaching practice, the author refers to the related theoretical research, investigates and analyses the current reading situation of the fourth grade students’ extracurricular reading, attempting to explore the feasible plan that would improve the students’ reading ability. Through a semester of action research, the reading interest, reading habits as well as the reading ability of the fourth grade’s students in the X primary school all have improved in various degrees. |
