The Research On Social Work Intervention In Fostering The Community Volunteers With Strengths Perspective

It is an essential task for social workers to foster the community volunteers at the community level since the Community Volunteers is one of the important resources for social workers to carry out the community service. Currently, empirical studies which focus on how social work intervenes in fostering the community volunteers are relatively scarce in China. Therefore, the research aims to explore the strategies and methods in the process of fostering the community volunteers by social work.This study applies qualitative research method to explore the cultivation of community volunteers. The essay is based on Strengths Perspective, and takes the Q community of Xiamen city as an individual case which focuses on three types of community volunteers ("from nonexistence to existence";"from few to many";"service from single to abundant") to launch the empirical research on the process of fostering the community volunteers. The thesis has following findings:Firstly, social workers conduct advantage assessment on community volunteers and allow them to try different forms of the community volunteer service, which helps to bring out the potential of community volunteers. Secondly, social workers establish an equal cooperative relationship with community volunteers and satisfy the legal rights of them, which contributes to enhance the enthusiasm of community volunteers to participate in community volunteer service. Thirdly, the approaches of gradual fostering,"experiential" participation and role model are several effective means for social worker to cultivate the community volunteers. Fourthly, social workers foster the community volunteers on the basis of the project and the residents’needs, which can contribute to the reasonable exploitation and utilization of the community volunteer resources.The theoretical significance of the research lies in providing certain reference value on fostering of the community volunteers and linkage studies of the "social workers+volunteers". In practice, it helps to create cultivation mode of volunteers by communities, increase the ability and enthusiasm of the community volunteers to participate in the community volunteer service and exert the function of the mechanism of the "social workers+volunteers". Due to the limitation of the author’s ability and time, the research has some deficiencies such as the representation of the interviewees and the investigation of the depth and scope in fostering community volunteers and so on.
