Proactive personality is a positive psychological quality and it represents the trend of positive psychology. Since the concept of proactive personality came out, indepth researches have been conducted in industrial and organizational psychology field. However, the research in education is relatively less. The meaning of proactive personality is that one person can take a stable and positive action to affect the surrounding environment. It is a kind of important predictor variables, playing a key role not only in the areas of work but also in study.In this study, taking college students as the main body, the attention is focused on the characteristics of proactive personality and its predictive effect on the academic achievement. During the study, academic self-efficacy, as a mediating variable, is found to play a role of a bridge between them. In order to study the relationship among proactive personality, academic self-efficacy and academic performance, the first step is to explore and validate the applicability of proactive personality questionnaire for the Chinese college students.282college students are selected as subjects, then by exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, proactive personality questionnaire abbreviated version (PPS), which is with single dimension and17items created by Bateman, is revised to a new version, with two dimensions and10items and suitable for the Chinese college students. According to the revised questionnaire,408efficient college students are randomly selected, in order to intensively discuss the proactive personality’s characteristic, the relationship of proactive personality, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement.The results shows as follows.(1) Bateman’s proactive personality questionnaire is revised to a new version, with10items in two dimensions.(2) Proactive personality has interaction at grade, gender and science/arts.(3) The proactive personality, learning capacity and behavior of self-efficacy are significantly positively related; and using demographic variables as control variables, both proactive personality and academic self-efficacy have a positive forecast effect on the academic achievements.(4)Academic self-efficacy is an intermediate variable between proactive personality and academic achievement. That is, proactive personality indirectly effects academic achievement through academic self-efficacy.
