A Social Work Intervention Research On Inferiority Feeling Of Orphans In Welfare Agency

Living in the orphanage for daily life and growing up in standard care patterns,children in the orphanage were chronically divorced from conventional family life, which needs the society to pay close attention to.Currently,in china,there are a large numbers of children in orphanages.However the institutional care model of orphanages can only afford physical needs of orphans and do little about their mental needs.As vulnerable group without parents and families,They are more likely to suffer from mental problems in growing than children of normal families.As a general type of those problems,Inferiority is a relatively negative emotional experiences.Individuals often showed self-denial or lower self-evaluation. The prolonged state of inferiority would have a marked impact on physical and mental development of individuals.Therefore,researches on the children in the orphanage for their issues of inferiority is of necessity.The author choose the institution located in Guangxi province as research site.Guiding by Empowerment Theory,author try to intervene the orphans’ inferiority through the professional method of social work. Generally speaking,the research mainly focuses on three aspects:Firstly,the current situation of children’s inferiority complex in N agency.On the basis of current situation of children’s inferiority,the author tries to find the reasons that cause their inferiority from five angles:individual, institution, family, friends and society,then assesses the need of intervening orphans’ inferiority from the perspective of social work. Secondly practical intervening of professional social work methods for orphans’inferiority in N agency.It mainly consists of three methods,the intervention group for inferiority,individual case services and energized auxiliary methods.To be specific, there are five subjects of group intervention,including self-recognition,self-acceptance,Building sense of belonging,Correct treatment of charity and love and communication skills learning.The individual case work method is used to help individuals who has stronger sense of inferiority to reduce it with a one-on-one treatment.Through a series of auxiliary events from daily life to energize the orphans,which helps to strengthen and consolidate the effect of intervention.Thirdly,draw on conclusions of the research based on the process of social work intervention and have a discussion for further research.According to the research:Sense of inferiority of children in orphanages are generally above average, which shows situation we are facing.Fortunately,there is few individuals with extremely strong sense of inferiority.Though different dimensions of measurement,we noticed children in orphanages are particularly self-abased in three aspects:Social skills,learning skills and stamina.Besides,appearance also leads to their un-confident,too.The result of research shows necessity of professional services’ intervention.Practical intervening of professional social work methods for orphans’inferiority has positive effects.Intervention of groups is fruitful.It helps the service objects to reduce their sense of inferiority and grow healthily with the support of groups.Case work method provides targeted assistance to individuals who has stronger sense of inferiority.Energized auxiliary methods compensates orphans’ sense of inferiority.In addition,intervention of professional social work methods is successful,worth continuing study and to give full play to the professional advantages in future.
