The semantic relation of predicate-object is an important part in the studies ofChinese Grammar. Linguists keep different opinions on the semantic relation ofpredicate-object for it is very complicated in Ancient Chinese Grammar. Theclassification in this paper is based on the standard established in “Ancient Chinesegrammar and its development†by Yang Bojun, and it also assimilates other opinionfor the particularity of the actual data.Lü Shi Chun Qiu has been specifically and thoroughly researched in this paperas a monograph by exhaustive statistics and category description on the semanticrelation of predicate-object. The purpose of the study is contributing more or less tothe development of the history of both the Chinese language by providing somematerials for Old Chinese lexical research. The prolegomenon elaborates five parts: the reasons and significances of theselection, the general situation and status of Lü Shi Chun Qiu, the research methodin this paper, several illustrations about collecting data.Chapter one mainly introduces the semantic relation of predicate-object,including many significant achievements of generations linguists which are theoreticalsupport in this paper. This chapter discusses the reason of the complication of thesemantic relation of predicate-object and analyses the relation between the specialpredicate-object structure and the flexible usage of parts of speech.Chapter two and chapter three summarizes the predicate-object structure of LüShi Chun Qiu, analyzing the constitution of predicate and the ingredients of object.Chapter four mainly depicts the semantic relation of predicate-object. Thischapter begins with the sixteen types on transitive structure. This paper makes a morein-depth analysis on dominance relations and concerning relations for they are themost basic relations in the semantic relation of predicate-object. In chapter five, eight types are enumerated in this chapter on double-objectsstructure.In the part of conclusion, the conclusion of the semantic relation ofpredicate-object is introduced and this paper compared Lü Shi Chun Qiu with othercompositions.
