| ObjectivesTo observe and compare the effects of acupuncture used with and without a warming needle device on the treatment of back Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS). Clinical efficacy and improvement in clinical symptoms provide a basis for the use of a warming needle device in the treatment of back Myofascial pain syndrome.MethodUpon meeting the inclusion criteria,40suitable subjects were selected randomly from August2013to March2014at Beijing Dongzhimen Hospital’s acupuncture clinic. Upon being numbered based on their sequence of visit, the subjects were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group, with20subjects in each group. In the two groups, factors such as the subjects gender, age, duration of disease onset and other general information did not prove to be statistically significant (P>0.05), and can be compared, refer to table for more details. The research method used is as follows:Acupuncture treatment combined with a warmed needle device. Needling method:the needle is inserted diagonally upwards to a depth of1.0inch for the yanglao point, vertically to a depth of1.3inche for the chengshan point, Two points after needles, use lift and thrust, twist and turn around method, and needled horizontally downwards close to the skin to a depth of0.8-1.0iches for the ashi points, use fast forward needle with one hand method. Warmed needling method:acupuncture point selection was4-6ashi points (Each treatments according to the same areas around lumps or sclerosis and pain points at the region). After getting a needling sensation, a Hangzhou Dandun Medical company use HT-I therapeutic apparatus combination of both warmed needle and electric needle. Choose only warmed needle program was used to heat up the needles. After using BMP-VIIIP type Infrared light therapy device irradiate with part of pain, using10W power. The needles were left for20minutes. Treatment was carried out thrice a week, each week made up one treatment cycle; the entire treatment course comprised three treatment cycles. During the course, treatment would be stopped if pain symptoms disappear.Control group:Aside from the use of a warmed needle device, the rest of the treatment is similar to the treatment group.Subjects in both groups were subjected to a Visual Analog pain Score (VAS) before and after treatment. In addition, the surface area of soft tissue injury around the knot was used as a measurement indicator to observe clinical effects of the treatment. Differences in clinical effects between the treatment group and control group were subsequently compared.Results1. Basic patient information:Prior to treatment, subjects between the treatment and control group showed no significant statistical difference (P>0.05) in terms of gender, age and disease duration, hence the two groups can be compared.2. Visual Analog pain Score (VAS) comparison:Prior to treatment, both groups had no significant statistical difference (P>0.05) for VAS. After treatment, VAS scores for the treatment group was significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). This shows that the treatment group had less shoulder and back pain after the treatment, and hence suggests that the use of a heating needle device has an effect on the treatment of back muscle fasciitis.3. Comparing the surface area of soft tissue injury around the knot:Before treatment, both groups showed no significant statistical difference in surface area (P>0.05), and hence both groups can be compared. After treatment, the results indicate in terms of reducing other accompanying symptoms, both groups had no significant statistical difference (P>0.05). This indicates that the use of acupuncture in combination with a heating needle device can reduce the surface area of soft tissue injury around the knots of back muscle fasciitis, but it does not help to reduce accompanying symptoms.4. Comparing treatment efficacy:After treatment1time,3times,6times, showing that the treatment efficacy is higher than the control group. Results of the statistical analysis show that a using acupuncture in combination with a heating needle device has a better effect on the treatment of back muscle fasciitis, compared to solely using acupuncture for treatment.Conclusion1. Acupuncture used in combination with a warming needle device gives better treatment results than when acupuncture is used alone.2. Acupuncture used in combination with a warming needle device can reduce the pain caused by back muscle fasciitis. This treatment method not only shows good results, it is also safe and easy to manipulate and worth promoting for clinical treatment. |
