Small Cities Modern Streetcar Line Network Planning Study

Modern tramcar is a new standard of urban rail transit which is comprehensive technical upgrade from traditional tram with more than100years old. Modern tramcar network’s layout method and strategy is put forward in this paper based on the characteristics of the modern tramcar.First of all, the paper generalized the forms of right of way and organization of the modern tramcar.The highlight is the modern tramcar’s function orientation in urban public transport, pointed out that the modern streetcar is the trend of the development of public transport; Used sophisticated "four-stage model" to forcast the modern tramcar traffic demand.The lines of modern tramcar is affected by urban morphology, land layout, construction conditions and other factors in the middle and small cities and formed a particular line network morphology; Calculated the proportion of the network with different methods based on the analysis of the factors affecting the scale;Planned the transfer site between conventional and modern tramcar transit.Secondly, pointed out the multi-attribute AHP is applicable based of the constrast of the evaluation methods of modern tramcar network; evaluation index is composed of passenger services, coordination of rurban development, operation effects, costs and benefits. The index weight was constructed combined with expert’s options and results of AHP.Finally, through the planning of tram line network in Taizhou-the middle and small cities, modern tramcar network’s layout method and strategy was summarized.
