Mass Customization is a new mode of production by the widespread concern in recent years, and is regarded as the 21st century development trends in the manufacturing industry.Mass customization design is the realization of large-scale production of customized product design method.DFMC mainly uses the thinking of parallel processes and the product family design, which establish reasonable product family model, and model-based product family variant design is one of the key technologies to achieve large-scale custom design.product configuration is the important method to achieve DFMC products variant Design.Therefore, the research of based on the theory of DFMC product configuration and design tools is of vital significance.In the paper the function of the functional requirements have been analyzed in the design and manufacture of products.Aiming at the current problem of lacking means to obtain and describe requirement information, it establishes an interactive function requirement communication model based on WEB technology.It realizes fuzzy-frame concluding method and configurational inferring method based on regulations.After that,the conceptions of product module and product family have been defined in product design process. It analyzes the functions, principles and structure of product family. It then analyzes the features of configuration-oriented transformation design.This chapter at last introduces the dynamic model of configurational transformation oriented product family following the discussion on fundamental of product family.This paper summarizes the research of DFMC and its design methods; researches the product configuration theory based on DFMC;and builds a product configuration model based on Configuration Rules,and research on the Configuration algorithm based on Configuration Rules;develops a general product configuration design tool and analyzes the functions and realization technologies of its constituent modules; in the end, as an example, escalator configuration design is carried out to validate the tool's feasibility and universality.
