Guilin Institute of Tourism (GLIT) where the author works was founded in1985. GLIT is one of the executive director units of the Tourism Education Committee of China Tourism Association, the affiliate members of the UNWTO who have given their substantial support, the tourism professionals training base of the Greater Mekong Sub-region, one of the ASEAN tourism education and training bases of the first10tourism colleges, the National Tourism Administration’s only assessment center in Southwest for department managers and general managers from hotels and travel agencies as well as other tourism professionals from different parts of China, and the unit who can hold the provincial exam of tour guide certificate and compile tourism textbook. Since1990s, GLIT has offered the course of Chinese as a second language. As the tourism industry sprang up in the past ten years, GLIT as well as the course of Chinese as a second language could seize this opportunity and made great progress in its all aspects.The thesis studies the teaching of Chinese as a second language in GLIT analyzing its current situation and problems, and tries to put forward some ideal and feasible suggestions. The thesis includes four parts:Part one is the introduction and mainly introduces the thesis’ research backgrounds, research purposes and research methods.Part Two surveys and analyzes the current situations of teaching Chinese as a second language in GLIT. To better understand its situations and make the research more objective and scientific, the thesis applies questionnaire, interview and class observation to study the teaching management staff, full-time teachers and students and then draws a conclusion with contrastive analysis and inductive method. The questionnaire involves teachers, students, textbooks and curriculum and the author interviews some teaching management staff, full-time teachers and students and observes the class teaching for four weeks involving all subjects of teaching Chinese as a second language. Thus, the author can fully understand the situations of teaching Chinese as a second language and find its problems. Therefore, based on the existed problems, Part Three brings forward some suggestions according to teachers’and students’opinions.Part Four concludes the research.
