The year2014marks the50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-French diplomatic ties. Various conferences, meetings and cultural activities will be held, where interpreters’good performance will play a big role.Interpreting numbers are one of the most prominent problem triggers in simultaneous interpretation (SI). Many scholars have studied the strategies to deal with numbers in interpretation. On that basis, this essay studies the energy allocation mechanism with regard to number interpreting in Chinese-English (C-E) SI and Chinese-French (C-F) SI with the theory of Gile’s Effort Model in Interpretation and provides the suggestions to improve the accuracy of number interpreting in C-E SI and C-F SI. This essay also attempts to make the qualitative analysis on the influence of note-taking to the accuracy of number interpreting in SI.As both English and French are part of Indo-European languages, they have similarities, for instance, the order of magnitude. But they have many differences as well, for example, the numerical expressions and the grammars. In this research, the author carried out an empirical study of C-E SI and C-F SI. Two groups of students were invited:Group E represented the students of Chinese-English interpretation, and Group F represented the students of Chinese-French interpretation. They were required to interpret the same Chinese speech. The result of analysis of the experiment shows that energy allocation mechanism is similar in both cases and that note-taking can improve the accuracy of number interpreting, but has a negative impact on the energy allocation efficiency to the information interpreting relating to numbers and its accuracy. Also the result proves the French sentence structure with regard to the number interpreting can simplify the sentence and help more energy to number interpreting.
