An Analysis Of Inefficient Note-taking In Englishchinese Consecutive Interpreting And Its Solutions

Note-taking plays an essential role in supporting consecutive interpretation,as it can assist the interpreter to recall the content quickly and accurately in a short time and convey the speaker’s views in a logical and clear manner.However,inefficient note-taking has various impacts on the interpretation.This thesis took an investor meeting on macroeconomy held by Company A as the case to study on inefficient note-taking,which includes analyzing the classification,causes and effects of inefficient note-taking as well as the solutions for improving the efficiency of notetaking.First,based on a literature review,the author summarized the functions and principles of note-taking as well as the features of effective note-taking.Afterwards,after a thorough analysis of the inefficient notes taken by the author,it is found out that inefficient note-taking can be divided into three categories,which are logic confusion,improper information selection and poor readability.At last,the author put forward three solutions to improve notetaking efficiency,including better attention-sharing,more comprehensive symbol system,and deepened awareness of marking vital details.Given that the target language of English-Chinese consecutive interpretation is the A language of Chinese interpreters,note-taking weighs more heavily in English-Chinese consecutive interpretation than Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.Therefore,enhancing note-taking efficiency will largely improve the interpretation quality in EnglishChinese consecutive interpretation...
