| This is a report on the trans-editing of English financial news. In2013, atrans-editing platform was set up by Huanqiu Media Group and Sichuan InternationalStudies University (SISU). Out of interest, the writer of this paper signed up andpassed the test for being enrolled in such a platform. So far, the writer has trans-editedover50pieces of financial reports. In comparison with other types of news, Englishfinancial news possesses its own features. Except for financial terminology, one canoften see charts, data or examples in such news, which are demonstrative of itsobjectivity and accuracy. These features constitute great obstacles to the writer’strans-editing practices. In order to solve these problems like how to identify topics forthe target texts, how to handle headlines of the source texts and how to translateaccurately the financial terminology, the writer, under the guidance of Functionaltranslation theory, offered qualified renders after giving full consideration to readers’taste, textual requirements and news value. These renders were accepted andpublished on Huanqiu.com.The analysis of these difficulties and strategies aims to provide some reference tothe trans-editing of the type of news. However, because of limited capability andknowledge, there must be some unsatisfying points in the writer’s renders. In thefuture, the writer will gain deeper and more systematic knowledge of financial newstrans-editing, hoping to work hard and gather more experience. |
