| With the globalization and further economic development, the economic and tradeexchanges between China and foreign countries have become increasingly frequent.Signing contracts plays a very important role in economic activities, as it is a commonlegal means to protect the rights of concerned parties. Under this economic background,the demand for English-Chinese translation of contract texts is also increasing enormously.As for the quality requirement for the translation of contract texts, according to thefeedback received from clients, it is obvious that clients are particularly concerned aboutthe accuracy and fluency of translation texts.The thesis firstly describes the characteristics of English contract texts, coveringvocabulary, sentences and text style of discourse levels. Secondly, it points out that thelanguage features of legal document texts lead to the difficulty in comprehension ofEnglish contract texts, which further result in unnatural and unreadable translation. Thirdly,the thesis sorts out some examples and analyzes some common mistakes occurred in thecomprehension and expression process respectively, which are two main processes in thetranslation practice. Finally, the thesis provides some practical countermeasures forEnglish-Chinese translation of contract texts. |
