Analysis Of The Wording Mistakes In Chinese-English Translation Of Contracts

In recent years,with the development of economic and trade relations between China and foreign countries,the demand of contract translation keeps growing,making it a basic and necessary competence for translators of contracts to translate contracts correctly and fully understand the implication of the contract terms.However,many translators are faced with problems when translating Chinese contracts: the professionals think the translations are not professional enough while the non-professionals do not understand the translation.There are two reasons behind such problems: firstly,the contract translation lessons in college are pedantic and attach more importance to the translation theory,lacking of much actual practice and any guidance significance;secondly,most studies concerning contract translation mainly focus on the English-Chinese translation of contract.For this reason,the author chooses the translation of Chinese contract as research object.By taking the translation of a company’s Contract for E-Logistics Services as an example,this report concludes the difficulties and analyzes the wording mistakes in Chinese-English contract translation.This report consists of four parts.Firstly,a brief discussion of the background,goal and meaning of this translation project;secondly,analysis of the content,vocabulary characteristics and type of the source text;thirdly,introduction of the whole process and difficulties of the translation,and analysis of the wording mistakes according to some examples choosing from the contract translation;fourthly,conclusion of the translation experience and some demanding problems are proposed.It is hoped that this report,with practical significance,can further uplift the translation skill of the author of this report and enlighten the translators who are engaged in Chinese-English contract translation.
