In light of functionalist translation theory and reception aesthetics, the thesis attempts to illustrate the nature and characteristics of wushu terms from the perspective of the language, culture and function and comes up with related translation strategies. The thesis makes full use of examples collected in prior study to analyze translation errors and further expound the language, rhetorical and cultural features of wushu texts; moreover, given the simplicity, abstract and expertness of wushu terms, the thesis proposes the way to apply different translation methods into various contexts flexibly, such as transliteration, free translation, literal translation and annotation. It is well known that wushu is an inseparable part of Chinese traditional culture, so the translators should pay much attention to convey the connotative meaning and denotative meaning of wushu text. Besides, the thesis makes a study on translation version of Kung fu novels and attaches great importance on the selections of original texts and aesthetic feeling. Based on translation principles and translation brief, the thesis makes attempt to establish a specific translation mode centering on translation purpose or function of translated text, aiming to facilitate the international communications of Chinese wushu culture and enhance the international image of Chinese culture.
