The “Ibsenism†mainly refers to thethought of Ibsen’s drama creation in which “troll†is an important phenomenon.“Thetrue quintessence of Ibsenism is the troll.†Both of them are focusedon human’s profound inner-world, and advocating the fighting spirit of neverstopping. The second chapter is the interpretation on Hedda who is defined as the“troll†image. The Norwegian troll tends to take a life of ease and free. Heddapossesses such characteristics, so she is the embodiment of independenceand individuality who is full of doubt and negation and commited herself to the inner-self seeking. Hedda adheres to herself, and shows a strong sense of personality.Andshe has ice and fire mingled character, which is similar to the contradictionsof troll. Hedda’s“trollishâ€nature represents crucifixion and the resurrection of spirit. The third chapter analyses on the cultural connotation of “troll†image.Hedda liberated herself, which shows a strong sense of life and the fanatic pursuit ofspirit, her spirit is open to the future and new. Hedda’s pursuit represents thehuman’s ideal. Longing for the Dionysian survival state, she faces life withimpermanent mind, dares to abandon the fetters and release herself, returns to theoriginal life personality and vitality. At the same time, she also represents the pursuit of a better relationship between “soul and emotionâ€,that’s to say the spiritualcommunication in soul.Only in this way can man produce new mankind who havemore noble and life spirit. In the part of conclusion, it will proclaim the reason for the creation of the “trollâ€figures in different degree who stand for the specific interpretation of Ibsenism. As themost distinctive character, Hedda reflcts Ibsen’s spiritual idea which proves to be theguidance toour reality. |
