This dissertation mainly discusses the connotation of the sinicized Ibsenism.That is, realism,individualism in the vision of Hu Shi and feminism misled by thetorchbearer’s utilitarian pursuit during the May4th movement. This dissertationdiscusses the influence that the connotation of "feminism" has had on Chinese femaleliterature and the female consciousness of the twentieth century. And it reinterpretatesIbsen’s works in Freudianism and expands the modernity of feminism in Ibsen’sworks.This dissertation mainly points four parts: the first chapter considers theconstruction of the sinicized Ibsenism, and discusses the Ibsenism defined by Hu Shiand the created feminism under the enlightening utilitarian pursuit. The secondchapter redefines Chinese Nora’s identity, that is, she was actually a modern socialtorchbearer covered with a feminist coat. The whole chapter discusses the fate ofNora in China and how she influenced China through three contents:"Nora’s rebirth ","Nora’s hide" and "Nora’s return". The third chapter analyzes the modernity offeminism connotation in the late Ibsen drama and discusses the relationship betweenIbsenism under Freudianism context and the Chinese female literature after1980s.The fourth part summarizes the influence that the sinicized Ibsenism has had onChinese female literature and the female consciousness of twentieth century, anddiscusses the relationship between the sinicized Ibsenism with western modernity,Chinese literature modernity and Chinese cultural modernity.
