Report On A Liaison Interpreting Internship To Serve University International Communications

In this report, the author has summarized and analyzed the factors and problemsthat need to be noticed on interpreting based on the author’s personal experience ofbeing a liaison interpreter for the International Communication Office of JilinUniversity, doing liaison interpreting for Jilin University’s intercollegiate exchangingactivities with Kentucky State University and King Abdullah University of Scienceand Technology, and pointed out the aspects that need to be ameliorated in futurelearning and practicing in order to improve the author’s professional skills and theoverall quality of interpretation.The thesis is based on the author’s personal experience and the interpretingrecording, meticulously analyzing the wording, sentence patterns, etc. of theinterpreting text, summarizing the features and difficulties of liaison interpreting,generalizing practical experiences and correcting mistakes through the author’sinterpreting and observations on other interpreter’s performance in order to lay a solidfoundation for future practice and improve interpreting quality. The report consists offive parts, and the first part is task description, introducing the general informationand background knowledge of the two conferences which the author has participated;the second part is preparation, mainly covering the author’s pre-interpretingpreparation, such as understanding task requirements and relevant information of theclients, including their personal details and the basic information of their schools; thethird part introduces how the interpreting is conducted, presenting the specificinterpreting process; the fourth part reviews the interpreting performance andintroduces some practical interpretation skills and interpreting etiquette; the fifth partare the lessons and experiences the author learnt via this practice.The author wishes the report could possess guiding significance on interpretationconduction, improving the comprehensive quality and clarifying the targets ofinterpreters.
