A Report On Liaison Interpreting For International Basketball Players To Exchange In China

With the development of the economy and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,the exchanges of sports between China and foreign countries have become more and more frequent,especially,the exchange and development of basketball.From April 30 th to May 27 th,2018,the author was entrusted by Shaanxi New Dynamic Culture and Sport Media Co.,Ltd.to accompany the international basketball players to support interpreting service.The main task also included the following items: foreign players going to the local school to teach students some professional basketball knowledge,playing basketball games with local players,visiting some famous tourist attractions in the central and western regions in China,and receiving interviews of local TV stations or newspapers and so on.In the process of interpreting,the main theory that guided the author to practice was the Interpretive Theory including comprehension of meaning,deverbalization and expression of meaning.Besides,due to the related knowledge of more cultural differences,the intercultural communication perspective was chosen as a supplement.Applied Interpretive Theory and the intercultural communication perspective,the author completed the interpreting task successfully,which was highly praised by international basketball players.This paper is a report on interpreting practice.The author applied Interpretive Theory and the intercultural communication perspective to reflect in the practice of interpreting.Interpretive Theory mainly carried out specific case study from comprehension of meaning,deverbalization and expression of meaning.From the intercultural communication perspective,the differences of the case study in belief and in diet were analyzed.According to the analysis of the cases,this paper reflects that Interpretive Theory and the intercultural communication perspective had vitally practical significance for the interpreting process.It is hoped that the analysis of this practice can provide some theoretical and practical references for the future study of interpreting practice.As a result,for the interpreter,the ability to combine theory with practice should be enhanced and the service quality should be promoted.
