Under the guidance of the State Council’s “The decision to deepen education reform andpromote quality education”, universities and colleges start a new round of education reform inorder to meet the social demands for dance talents and people’s expectation of learningprofessional dance, and adjusting and reforming curricular system is one of the important partsof the reform. Against such a background, this paper selected the topic of “A Research intoOptimizing the Provision of the Professional Basic Courses of Choreographer at Shenyang SportUniversity”. The research is expected to make contributions to theoretical exploration oncurricular reform and to provide advice with reference value for optimizing the basic courses ofchoreographer at Shenyang Sport University. This research paper has yielded the results by using the theoretical knowledge of dance, education, arts, aesthetics and mathematics and so on. The research methods are also of greatvariety, including documentary method, panel discussion, questionnaire survey, statisticalanalysis, sample method and logical analysis. The paper starts from exploring the knowledgestructure of choreographer, advances the “reasonable” requirement for college courseprovision of choreographer, applies optimization knowledge and optimization principle, drawson the research achievements at home and abroad, and presents the basic principle and detailedadvice on optimization about professional basic course provision of choreographer at ShenyangSport University. The training objective of the current choreographer at Shenyang Sport University is notdirectly aimed at the social demands for dance talents. The provision of professional courses andprofessional basic courses is still in the state of imitating and borrowing ideas from others, andtherefore, it lacks subjective consciousness. The course provision doesn’t reflect its ownprofessional characteristics and the distinctive features of talented persons. Nor does it focus oncultivating students’ artistic creative thinking. The range of selective courses is not broad; thelearning hours are not adequate; the credits are low. Another problem of the current courseprovision is that it focuses more on theory and traditional dances and pays less attention toartistic practice and fashion dances. Class hour allocation and credit weight fail to guide thestudents to broaden their artistic career and to develop their artistic individuality. Some conclusions can be drawn from the research into professional basic course provision of choreographer and teaching practice at Shenyang Sport University. The objective of major development should be reassessed based on the market demand andstudent career expectation. Without being restricted by imitation and reference, thechoreographer at Shenyang Sport University will be built into a major with obviouscharacteristics and remarkable advantages.Professional basic courses should be reasonably provided. Its aim is to acquire the coreknowledge and skills to accomplish the goal of personnel training. Selective courses should bebroad and advanced and given sufficient class hours and credits. More emphasis should beplaced on the classes of practice and appreciation. Courses of martial arts and dance of Mannationality should be on the list of courses to form regional ethnic characteristics. In this way, anew teaching system can be built.Teaching practice is the key part to achieve the expected goal of optimizing courseprovision. For Shenyang Sport University, its priority is to strengthen the construction ofteaching staff and to improve teachers’ teaching competence.
