A Reiss’s Text-typological Attempt At Translating An American Legal Reading

Legal reading is an important communication medium for the public tounderstand legal knowledge. Law101is popular with people at home and abroad.Guided by the Reiss’s text typology theory, two chapters of this book are translated,which are mainly about the American constitutional law and constitutional rights. Thecorresponding translation report is mainly divided into the following contents:The first chapter is the brief introduction of the task, in which it describes thecharacteristics of the original text in terms of content and language style andtranslation process. The second chapter is the introduction of Reiss’s text typologytheory. The third chapter in which the translation analysis is shared with the readers isthe most important part of the whole report. Based on relevant theory and translationmethods, this report gives a detailed analysis on numerous translation cases. Thefourth chapter is translation understanding. At first, it illustrates the tools andresources used during the whole translation. Then it discusses the abilities andqualities required as a translator. The fifth chapter is the conclusion, whichsummarizes the whole content of the report and the personal experience gained fromthis task.Reiss’s text typology theory is applied to translating a legal reading, which notonly enriches the application areas but also adds the translation cases of this theory.
