The parallel text refers to the one with the same information or the same function produced in a roughly similar communicative context.Parallel text is not only conducive to improving the accuracy of the translation, but also making up for the insufficiency of translators’ professional knowledge and language skills. Therefore, such a method has been widely applied to the translation of non-literary texts, such as legal text, financial text and news text. The Constitution of Jiangxi Normal University represents a typical legal text that introduces in detail the history, characteristics of the university, the rights and obligations of teachers and students,as well as the specific management methods of various internal affairs. In this context, the English version of The Constitution of Jiangxi Normal University could also offer a window for international students with admission will or foreign universities with cooperation intention to further understand the operation mechanism, legal system and campus culture of colleges and universities in China. On this basis, the report takes the parallel text as a guide, and carries out the translation practice with The Constitution of Jiangxi Normal University as the source text. The report elaborates the specific translation process, namely pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation,and hence explores how to achieve sufficient, effective, and authoritative parallel texts. Then through cases analysis, the report further states how to ensure the legal language characteristics of translation at two levels of word and sentence with the help of parallel texts.Meanwhile, the report intends to solve various difficulties in the actual translation process, and focuses on the accurate translation of content like archaic words, legal terminology,Chinese four-character structures, modal verbs, passive sentences, and serial verb construction. In this way,the translation could conform to the habits of target readers. The conclusions of the study are as follows: 1.Parallel texts of university constitutions can be obtained from sources such as the Internet and physical books, aswell as by expanding the search scope. In addition, the attention should be given to texts of multi-disciplinary fields, but more importantly,to constitutions of normal universities, thereby enhancing the utilization rate of parallel texts.2.The application of parallel texts can help set up a reliable terminology database and corpus, understand the original text, and reduce the mistranslation caused by misunderstanding. Moreover, parallel texts are conducive to improving the wording and phrasing skills of the translation,as well as help eliminate ambiguity, standardize sentence structures, and restore the overall style.3.Source text can be classified into two types, namely descriptive text and legal text. With the guidance of parallel texts, such translation strategies can be adopted as follows: borrowing, imitating, literal translation, additional translation, word order adjustment, voice shifting, and part of speech shifting. And considering that the translation of college constitution in China is still in its initial phase,it is hoped that the experience and suggestions drawn on from this study could offer help for the translation of college constitutions in the future.
