In recent years, although many scholars have translated legal academic works featuring the U.S.Constitution,people who have analyzed the syntactic structure translation of this sort are few and far-between.This translation project consists of 48 chapters,of which the first thirteen chapters are chosen to be translated. The selected one contains three parts: American history, political science, and law.Proceeding from this academic text,it is expected that certain experience in the translation of legal academic texts can be gained and translation skills can be improved. Therefore, the eighth chapter is selected as a case study. This paper mainly focuses on the analysis of the syntactic structure of legal academic texts.Starting from the problems encountered in the translation practice, the paper is developed by proposing questions, analyzing problems, and finally solving them.In addition, split syntactic structure, use the analysis of the grammatical structure, and the complicated sentences are segmented so as to reach the goal of simplifying the syntactic structure. In this translation project,it is found that not only the long syntactic structure in legal academic texts requires in-depth analysis with a solid grammatical foundation, but the method of dealing with complex sentences is indispensable. In addition, thefocus on the semantic meaning of the sentence, and the angle of analyzing the syntactic structure cannot be ignored. Finally, the author focuses on the translation skills used in translating long syntactic structures. For the purpose of dealing with language style properly, the parallel text comparison methods is put forward to solve this problem. It is hoped that this paper could provide guidance to the future translation.
