As a universal social and cultural phenomenon, Taboo reflected in all aspects of social life, The scopeis very wide, From the personal to the whole social life, Taboo phenomenon exsited everywhere andeverytime, Taboo language as language variants also have their own nationality, The taboo is based on itsown cultural connotation, Reflects a nation’s history, traditional ideas,customs and etiquette, ethics andmorality, Religious belief, values and social psychological characteristics, it has a distinctive nationalcharacteristics. So, the analysis of the cultural differences of English and Chinese taboos will help us moreproperly and freely when they use the language n the cultural communication. Master these differences,Not only help us enhance our ability of language communicative, it can aso help us understand thecountry’s social psychology and cultural practices, have a better understanding of the western culture, makethe intercultural communication more Smoothly.This paper through the comparison of the difference and the similarities between english and chinesetaboos, Analysis the causes of communication failure caused by taboo words, Discussion the differencesand similarities of English and Chinese cultural, and gain enlightenment from cross culture communicationand teaching, will help the readers have a profound and system understanding of taboos.to know each othervery well In cross-cultural communication and make the communication effectively.This paper can be divided into five parts, each part as follows:Part one is mainly introduced the selected topic significance of this paper,the research status ofChinese and English taboo language at home and abroad,and the definition of taboo.Part two analysis the similarities between English and Chinese taboo language.from three aspects:taboos of gods saints,taboos of profane language,and swearing language, and Vocabulary taboos.Part three analysis the differences between English and Chinese taboo language.from four aspects:color taboos, numberical taboos, name and appellation taboos,and topic taboos.Part four analysis the causes of communication error in cross-cultural communications caused bytaboo language.Part five further discussed how to avoid using the taboo words in intercultural communication, helpthe readers have a profound and system understanding of taboos.to know each other very well In cross-cultural communication and make the communication effectively.
