Aiming at Byeokgolje which near the southwestern of the Korean Peninsula, this paper is to study the background and geographical situation of Byeokgolje, moreovrer, further research about its history and exploration will be made as well. And the paper is concerned about the analysis on those folklore and poetry inscription which are related with Byeokgolje.Accordingly, this thesis will be divided into five chapters, summed up with a conclusion.Chapter One serves as a brief introduction to the writing purpose and gives a general account of international and domestic studies on Byeokgolje, the approach and the organization of the thesis and innovation.Chapter Two mainly introduce the historical background of Byeokgolje and its geographical situation and constructed method. In AD330, the construction of Byeokgolje started. At that time, Jindi’s Byeokgolje belonged to Mahan country who ruled the territory, because of the increasing of population and the development of agriculture, the demand of dams in southwest area increased. However, being relatively underdeveloped in term of construction, Mahan had to ask Baekje for technological support. Jindi which Byeokgolje is located in belongs to the White Mountain Lu Ling where so many rivers join together and has humid climate. To keep the fertilized farmland and avoid flooding and erosion, people builit Byeokgolje.Chapter Three is to look into the historical background and exploration, focusing on the relic exploration and rebuilding. Byeokgolje dam has a length of about3,300meters, with a capacity of3.7square kilometers. About300,000people had involved in the construction of Byeokgolje. By the discovery ofByeokgolje excavation site in1975, it can draw the specific address, irrigation channels and channel site. With the help of chemical and other advanced measurement method, straight research can be made of the layers of Byeokgolje, Byeokgolje had gone through many times of repairing before eventually it was deserted.Chapter Four looks into the custom and culture of Byeokgolje. An important incentive for double dragons’legend is from the construction of Byeokgolje, and tug of war the farming rites is from Byeokgolje as well. It is related with Byeokgolje "to send malformed Weng keep Jin Di" and "gift" to the office Gimje Shou kill abnormal nunnery Zheng Xueshi Hong Ming of the two poems and expounds the important function of Byeokgolje, and through the interpretation of "rain" on the Byeokgolje of dragons worship and profile can get.Chapter Five comes to a conclusion which is based on the previous comprehensive content summary, which emphasizes the historical status of Byeokgolje. It has some certain kind of valuable information on ancient sea southwest of the Korean peninsula situation, water and land transportation.
