Tcherepnin is a Russian-born American composer and music educator on early twentieth Century.He was also a music master committed to the world of music. He devoted his whole life to the Chinese music development. During Tcherepnin’s. temporary three-year’stay in China, he not only became the teacher of Shanghai National Music College, but was also launched for any flavor of Chinese piano music works activities. And then, in the following years, on his return to Europe and the United States, he not only continued to compose a song with strong national style of Chinese music works, but also spared every effort to introduce Chinese music on the world stage with his wife Li Xianmin. The author describes the introduction of the journey of Tcherepnins’life, all of his piano works, analysis and research, as well as his contribution to the development of Chinese music education, to show the deep roots of the musicians with Chinese music, and makes a conclusive statement to Tcherepnins’influence on modern Chinese music.This paper is divided into four sections. Chapter one is the introduction of Alexander Tcherepnin, including his life and music. In terms of life, this paper describes the life trajectory of Alexander Tcherepnin each life stage and musical creation; in terms of musical language, it addresses the major music styles and creative concept of Tcherepnin, and briefly introduces his " Nine pentatonic scale" and "make sound method". Chapter two is Tcherepnins’Chinese complex, which could be divided into four parts, for example:studying Chinese culture, teaching institutions, collecting works of Chinese music, and introducing Chinese music to the world, This Chapter is mainly to set out some of his main activities in China. Chapter three is Chinese elements of Alexander Tcherepnin’s music, Chinese ethnic musical instruments such as imitation, on folk songs of minor references, historical and cultural stories, references to folk art painted, and so on. In order to illustrate music education philosophy of Tcherepnin, the fourth chapter is music education thought of Tcherepnin which brings us enlightenment and thought. It could be divided into two main areas for discussion:the feasibility analysis of learning western music by folk music and Tcherepnin’s "Chinese music education program". This paper combines theory with discussion in order to better show Tcherepnins’ music from various points, and his musical ideas as well as rationality analysis of ideas. It is hoped to raise more researches on Alexander Tcherepnin and his works.
