Interpreting Chinese Elements In Alexander Tscherepnin ‘s Work

Tcherepnin,as one of the famous western composers who first came to China and led the creation,performance and education of Chinese piano,is a famous composer.He not only promoted the development of Chinese music,but also successfully integrated Chinese and European music and spread it to all parts of the world.The title of "Chinese music propagandist" is a tribute to Tcherepnin and also reflects the positive significance of his works to Chinese piano creation.Based on previous studies,this paper takes Tcherepnin's “Five Concert Etudes” as an example,and takes the Chinese elements in the works as the starting point.Through in-depth analysis of the living environment and cultural and political environment in which the composer was created,and through comparison with other relevant piano works,this paper hopes to have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the works and elaborate his contribution to Chinese music culture.This article first summarizes Tcherepnin's life,and through the analysis and combing of the composer's living environment and cultural and political environment,it elaborates the creation background and style characteristics of "Five Concert Etudes".Secondly,it defines Chinese style music and Chinese elements according to Chinese and foreign literatures.And from the three aspects of Chinese national musical instruments,Chinese national music materials and the reference of national harmony,it explains the Chinese elements used in Tcherepnin's "Five Concert Etudes".This paper analyzes the use of guqin,pipa,muyu and gongs and drums in the works to illustrate the crucial role played by their playing methods in style control.Then,taking Jiangsu folk song "Tan Mei" as an example,it analyzes how this work draws on elements from Chinese national music materials.Through the analysis of the harmony application with national color in the works,it will bring a brilliant sound effect with Chinese temperament.Finally,the paper summarizes the performance processing methods and performance experience of "Five Concert Etudes",and makes a concrete analysis of the performance skills from the following three aspects: the imitation and reference of Chinese elements in the works,the application of pedals and the construction of musical artistic conception,so as to obtain a deeper understanding of the improvement of the performance skills and the mastery of the style of the piano works.
