Abstract/Summary:
Alexander Tcherepnin, the Russian-American composer, went on a concert tour to the East in 1934. He became fascinated with Chinese culture and music and decided to stay in China until 1937. During his stay in China, Tcherepnin not only gave concerts and taught Chinese music students but also learned from Chinese culture. The Five Concert Studies, Op. 52 was one of the pieces that Tcherepnin composed during his stay in China. This composition contains many Chinese elements and imitation of Chinese instruments. It shows the composer's interest in teaching and his love for the Chinese people.
