A Clinical Observation Of Curative Effect On Treatment Of Functional Constipation With Electro-Acupuncture

Objective:To appraise objectively the curative effect on treatment of functional constipation (FC) with electro-acupuncture, the study used to observe value changes of Cleveland Clinic Score (CCS), Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS), and Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life (PAC-QOL) before and after treatment.Methods:A total of60patients met the diagnostic criteria of FC was randomly divided into Electro-Acupuncture group (Observation group) and Simple Acupuncture group (Control group), each group of30cases. Observation group was selected bilateral Tianshu, Fujie, and Shangjuxu points, then acupunctured deeply bilateral Tianshu and Fujie to the parietal peritoneum, and connected each needle holders transversely with electronic therapeutic apparatus which was set density wave, frequency of15Hz, current of0.1-1.0mA, and time30minutes respectively; Bilateral Shangjuxu were straightly acupunctured to1inch and did a trick by inserting and twisting3times in small uniformly amplitude,10minutes a trick, and3tricks a treatment. Control group was selected the same points as Observation group, bilateral Tianshu, Fujie, and Shangjuxu points, then acupunctured deeply bilateral Tianshu and Fujie to the parietal peritoneum and bilateral Shangjuxu were straightly acupunctured to1inch and did a trick by inserting and twisting3 times in small uniformly amplitude,10minutes a trick, and3tricks a treatment. Two groups retained needles each time for30minutes,1time a day,5times a week, and treated for4weeks as a course. After a course of treatment, observing two groups of value changes of CCS, BSFS, and PAC-QOL before and after treatment was to statistical analysis and to evaluate the curative effect. Results:1. Both Observation and Control group were significantly different with statistical significance (P<0.05) before and after treatment in CCS, BSFS, and PAC-QOL scores. It means that electro-acupuncture and simple acupuncture treatment both can relieve patient’s constipation symptoms, improve their stool form, and promote their quality of life.2. After a course of treatment, Observation group was significant difference (P<0.05) in CCS total score and the main symptoms (defecation frequency, stool hard, incomplete stool, abdominal pain, and defecation time) compared to Control group, which shows electro-Acupuncture have obvious superior to simple acupuncture in improvement of the main constipation symptoms; Observation group was no significant difference with Control group in BSFS, which means electro-acupuncture and simple acupuncture have considerable effect on changing stool form better; Observation group was significant difference (P<0.05) in physical state, fear and anxiety, and total score of PAC-QOL compared to Control group, which shows electro-acupuncture takes evident advantage on simple acupuncture of strengthening patient’s physical state and relieving their fear and anxiety leading to promotion of their quality of life.3. After a course of treatment, Observation group of28cases were cured1cases(3.57%), obvious effective in8cases (28.57%), effective in18cases (64.28%), and invalid in1case (3.57%) up to the total efficiency of96.43%; Control group of29cases were obvious effective in4cases (13.79%), effective in17cases (58.62%), and invalid in8cases (27.41%) up to the total efficiency of72.59%. By Ridit analysis, the curative effect were significantly different (P<0.05) between two groups. It means that FC takes electro-acupuncture treatment is obviously better than simple acupuncture.Conclusion:The clinical observation shows that acupuncturing bilateral Tianshu and Fujie deeply with electronic therapeutic apparatus, added to acupuncturing bilateral Shangjuxu, can relieve patient’s constipation symptoms, improve their stool form, and promote their quality of life apparently. Functional constipation with electro-acupuncture treatment has definitely curative effect and worth of clinical application.
