Objective: To study the serum levels and clinical significance of PINP and-CTX in elderly male patients with acute exacerbation chronic obstructivepulmonary disease(AECOPD).Methods:23elderly male AECOPD patients and23elderly male healthywere recruited as the research objects.2-3ml venous blood as sample wascollected at07:30after overnight fasting with coagulation tube. Each bloodsample was centrifuged at3000rpm for10minute. Serum was collected andstored at-30. Serum biochemical maker PINP of bone formation and serum-CTX of bone resorption were measured byelectrochemistry illuminant means. All statistical analyses were performedusing Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS) version19.0. Clinicalsignificance was investigated combined with literature review. Results: There was no significant difference in the age distribution (P>0.05).The level of biochemical maker PINP of bone formation in AECOPD groupwas lower than the control group, the differences were of statisticalsignificance P<0.01-CTX of boneresorption in AECOPD group was lower than the control group, but thedifferences were not of significance (P>0.05). Conclusion: Elderly male patients with AECOPD usually have bonemetabolic disturbance which is characterized with low bone conversion.Low bone conversion will result to insufficiency of bone formation inAECOPD, which may accelerate osteopenia and osteoporosis.
