The Clinical Research On Post Infectious Cough In Children By Xuanhuazhisou Decoction

Post Infectious Cough (PIC) is considered to be in the category of chronic cough, the duration of which is about4weeks. It hardly last over8weeks as the cough is self-limited. Cough is the only or the main clinical manifestation, it is characterized by dry cough with less sputum or viscous sputum that is hard to expectorate, this coughing co uld get worse in morning or at night. Some factors, such as inhale cold air, pungent od or or movement can result in or aggravate cough. While the pathogenesis of Post Infect ious Cough is not very clear yet, it has been thought to be as a result of extensive dis ruption of epithelial integrity, widespread airway inflammation of the airways withor wit hout temporary airway hyperresponsiveness and neural receptor imbalance and soon. The morbidity of the disease varies with age, course of the disease, district and so on.Based on the experience of my tutor in treating chronic cough, Combining the char acteristics of the course and cough about the disease, we think that the basic mechanis m of the Children’s Post Infectious Cough is invasion of the lung by wind-phlegm, fail ure of lung qi in dispersion and impaired depurative descending of lung qi. Thus, we p ropose that dispersing lung qi for lowering adverse qi, resolving phlegm for arresting co ugh should be the basic treatment principle for PIC. We applied Self-made Decoction (Xuanhuazhisou decoction) to treat30children with Post Infectious Cough, while the m athed group which consists of29cases were given Montelukast. Compare the symptom scores of cough and expectoration before and after the treatment, analyze the efficacy of the two groups by the statistics. Results:2cases are cured,4markedly effective,19improved,5ineffective in the treatment group, in the mathed group they are separately2,1,16,10. The total effectiveness rate of the treatment group is83.33%, while65.52%in the matched group. With Wilcoxon rank sum test, the difference of the total effe ctiveness rate among the two groups is of statistical significance(P<0.05).The study showed that Xuanhuazhisou decoction can significantly improve children’ s cough and expectoration symptom scores and is of great clinical efficacy.
