Object: To evaluate the efficiency of Hua Tan Xi Feng Tong Luo Tang treatment forvertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis and discuss its inner mechanism for furtherstudy.Method: Dividing60cases of vertebral artery type of cervical spondylosis subjectsrandomly into two groups: treatment group and control group. The former one is treated byHua Tan Xi Feng Tong Luo Tang and the latter one by Dian Bai Zhu Tang Jiang. Afterfour weeks of treatment, evaluate the results and compare the total effective rate, syndromescore and Transcranial Doppler Sonography (TCD) index. Results: After four weeks treatment, the total efficiency of the treatment group is86%, much higher than that of the control group. Both of the two groups’ scores have nostatistical difference in gender, age, incidence and syndrome scores before the treatment(p>0.05). However the syndrome scores of post-treatment between the two groups havestatistical significant, which imply better efficiency of treatment group (p<0.01).According to the Vertebral Artery diastolic flow (Vd) and the vertebral artery diastolic flow(Vs) of the TCD index, both group have statistical significant after the treatment, but thetreatment group’s index are higher than that of control group’s and have statisticaldifference (p=0.010<0.01; p=0.012<0.05). Both groups did not have serious side effectsduring the treatment. Conclusion: Hua Tan Xi Feng Tong Luo Tang can be used for treating vertebralartery type of cervical spondylosis by improving the blood supply of the vertebral arteryand alleviating the clinical syndromes, therefore should be applied widely.
