ObjectiveTo explore the work pressure sources and influence factors of emergency nurses,definite the relationships among pressure sources, employee turnover and job satisfaction,know the coping strategies which the emergency nurses mainly adopt; provide the basis formanagers to formulate the related rules and regulations so as to reduce emergency nursesworking pressure and improve the job satisfaction.Objects and methods184clinical emergency nurses who worked in4clinical teaching hospitals of Jinan inShandong province from July2012to September2012were investigated withquestionnaire,including: emergency nurses common information questionnaire; emergencynurse stressor scale; emergency nurses coping strategies scale.Results1. Clinical emergency nurses work pressure sources were: patients care (2.59±0.25),workload and welfare benefits (2.57±0.25), nursing profession and work (2.31±0.39),working environment and equipments (2.29±0.14), management and interpersonalrelations (2.02±0.27); the first10pressure sources which could bring larger pressure toemergency nurses were (score from high to low): multiple critically ill patients, complexkinds of diseases, unpredictable condition change; low income and poor welfare; lowsocial status; the not polite behaviors of patients and their families,such as (abuse,unreasonable demands, hitting,etc); need to contact potential infectious or contagiouspatients; workload too much, less quantity of working nurses; face with emergencyconditions more often, such as: the patients with cardiac arrest; high-risk occupationalstress; need to accept all kinds of inspection and examination often; fear to make mistakesin work.2. The problem-focused coping strategy(PC) was taken when emergency nurses facedpressure; When the pressure was too large, three kinds of coping styles commonly used were (score from high to low): solve the present situation from the past successfulexperience(2.77±0.68); regard the faced problems objectively and consider from variousaspects (2.65±0.71); find some ways to do something to change the current situation evenif they were not effective(2.59±2.59). Two coping styles with the lowest score were worryand cry (1.77±0.59),and escape and shrink(1.58±0.61).3. Various aspects pressure sources were closely related to the emergency nursesturnover intention and job satisfaction (P<0.05, P<0.01) which were positively correlatedwith nurse turnover intention, and negatively correlated with job satisfaction, and jobsatisfaction was negatively correlation with turnover intention (r=-0.432, P<0.01).4. The pressure sources were positively correlated with the problem-focused copingclauses and the emotion-focused coping clauses, while the problem-focused coping clauseshad no relevance with the nursing profession and work.5. Differences were statistically significance among emergency nurses pressuresources, age, professional titles and class numbers attended monthly. Differences werestatistically significance among the problem-focused coping styles, working time, age andprofessional titles, class numbers attended monthly about stress coping had statisticalsignificance compared to emergency nurses coping styles.Conclusions1. The emergency nurses pressure sources mainly came from patients care, workload,and welfare benefits.2. Pressure sources were related to job satisfaction and turnover intention, andpositively correlated with turnover intention, negatively correlated with job satisfaction,and negative correlation between job satisfaction and turnover intention.3. Emergency nurses generally adopted the problem-focused coping styles.4. Carry out the learning of stress and coping styles monthly to reduce emergencynurse working pressure and improve emergency nurses coping styles.
