Objective: To observe the level of serum leptin in psoriasis andpsoriasis with metabolic syndrome(MS) before and after the treatment andto analyze its clinical significance. Methods: There were66patients who were in hospital fromNovember2011to December2012, and50healthy people in our medcialcentral over the same period were researched. Data of the height, weight, waistline, body mass index (weight/height2), Psoriasis Area and SeverityIndex, amount of smoking, amount of alcohol consumed, physical activity, disease duration, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), blood pressure (BP), lipidsand other information of the observer were collected. Patients were dividedinto two groups according to whether they were suffering from MS. Serumleptin of patients was tested and compared with that of normal group. Results: The proportion of patients with MS was22.73%in the totalpsoriasis patients. Patients with MS whose BMI, blood pressure, triglycerides, fasting glucose, low-density lipoprotein was significantlyhigher than patients without MS. In addition, date of amount of smoking and alcohol consumed, not eat breakfast and other bad habits were higherin the Psoriasis with MS (p <0.05).Psoriasis with MS were lack of exerciseand they liked to stay up late, while the proportion is higher in MS patients, but there is no statistical differences (p>0.05). Duration of psoriasis withMS was longer than that without MS, and patients with MS had poortreatment effect. Before treatment, serum level of leptin was higher in allpsoriasis patients than in normal controls(P=0.000<0.05) and leptin levelwas the highest in psoriasis with MS. After treatment, leptin level wasdecreased slightly in psoriasis with MS (P=0.209>0.05), but wassignificantly decreased in psoriasis without MS(P=0.000<0.05).Conclusion: Traditional treatment is ineffective for psoriasis with MSand leptin may involve in the resistance.
