Abies fargesii belongs to Abies genus of the Pinaceae family, which distributes in the center and west of China. To search for bioactive components, a systematic investigation on its crude extract was carried out. Silica gel column chromatography, thin-layer chromatography, sephadex chromatography, ODS column chromatography, HPLC were used and12compounds were isolated. They were identified by analysing spectra data and comparing with the laboratory samples isolated before. They are24(E)-lanosta-8,24-dien-3,23-dion-26-oic acid (1),23-hydroxy-3-oxolanosta-8,24-dien-26,23-olide (2), maltol (3), vanillin (4),p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (5), p-methylacetophenone (6),p-methoxybenzoic acid (7),(E)-p-methoxycinnamic acid (8),(+)-(3S,4S)-3,4-dihydro-6-methoxy-2H-1-benzopyran-3,4-diol (9), mangifernoic acid (10),β-sitosterol (11), daucosterol (12).Selected compounds were tested for their neuroprotective potential against CoCl2, H2O2, Aβ25-35-induced cell injuries in SH-SY5Y cells respectively. Compound1and3exhibited apparent neuroprotective effects against CoCl2or H2O2-induced SH-SY5Y cell injury. Compound3displayed modest anti-oxidative activity against A β25-35-induced SH-SY5Y cell injury.
