Objective:To investigate total homocysteine (Hcy) level in plasma and carotidintima-media thickness (the intima-media thickness, IMT),in the hypertensive patientsbetween the different ethnic, and the relationship between the total Hcy in plasma andcarotid atherosclerosisthe. Method: Screened the patients admitted to hosptial from2010to2012,375hypertensive patients as the observation group, including271ChineseHan patients with hypertension,104Uygur patients with hypertension;127non-hypertensive patients as control group; Application cycle enzymes measured plasmaHcy levels.Using color Doppler ultrasound measurements of carotid IMT. Result:PlasmaHcy level of the the hypertensive patients is higher than that of the control group(P<0.05);carotid IMT is higher than the control group (P<0.05); the proportion of thickenthe carotid artery and grow plaque is higher than that in the control group (P<0.05).TotalHcy level is positively correlated (r=0.266, P<0.05) with IMT,The carotid IMT waspositively correlated with age (r=0.240, P<0.05), total cholesterol (r=0.092, P<0.05),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r=0.107, P<0.05), and had not relevant with bodymass index, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. There is no significantdifference in the plasma Hcy levels, carotid IMT (P>0.05) between the Han and Uighurhypertensive patient. Conclusion:High Hcy, age, total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteincholesterol is important risk factors in arotid atherosclerosis. There is no significantdifferences in plasma Hcy, carotid IMT among Han and Uigur hypertensive patients.
