Determination Of The Glycemic Index Of Isomaltulose Drink

Objective: Owing to the charcter of Isomaltulose, it has important value in sports drinks.In this experiment we aimed to calculate the GI of Isomaltulose.Design and methods: We choose ten healthy females. According to the procedure of ISO26642:2010, after consumption of either glucose or isomaltulose, the2-h postprandialglucose responses were measured separately from the10volunteers. Glucose concentrationswere determined immediately with the Roche and YSI in plasma from the same sample. Thepaired plasma glucose concentrations were analyzed with various statistical methods. Thedrinks are50g-250ml isomaltulose and glucose，50g-500ml isomaltulose and glucose，25g-250ml isomaltulose and glucose and25g-500ml isomaltulose and glucose.Results: A total of718paired glucose values were obtained. When comparing the valuesof50g-250ml isomaltulose and glucose, the GI of isomaltulose measured by Roche and YSIare33.75±5.00vs.32.18±3.74. When comparing the values of50g-500ml isomaltulose andglucose, the GI of isomaltulose measured by Roche and YSI are29.50±3.52vs.31.00±3.55.When comparing the values of25g-250ml isomaltulose and glucose, the GI of isomaltulosemeasured by Roche and YSI are46.30±10.81vs.37.40±7.18. When comparing the values of，25g-500ml isomaltulose and glucose, the GI of isomaltulose measured by Roche and YSI are37.50±5.50vs.36.76±6.08.Conclusions: According to the procedure of ISO26642:2010,50g-250ml is the mostprecise way to calculate the GI of isomaltulose. There is no significant difference betweenthe result of YSI and Roche in the concentration of25g-500ml. There is significantdifference between the result of YSI and Roche in the concentration of25g-250ml.
