Comparative Study On Laparoscopic Repair And Open Tension-free Hernia Repair For Inguinal Hernia

Objective:To compare the clinical effect of Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair(LIHR) with open tention-free inguinal hernia repair and to evaluate the feasible andeconomical methods for adult inguinal hernia repair. Methods:A retrospective study wasperformed including65LIHR (laparoscopic group) and65open tention-free inguinalhernia repair (open group) during May.2007and July.2012. We followed up the patients，preoperatively，intraoperatively，postoperatively and compared the correlative parameters.Results:Compared with the open repair group，the laparoscopic group presented longeroperating time [(156.70±78.24)min vs (118.8264±44.01)min，P<0.01]，higher cost inhospital[(15309±1665)yuan vs (9969.37±435)yuan，P<0.05].But the laparoscopic grouphad shorter postoperative hospital stay[(4.26±1.54)d vs (5.86±2.35)d，P<0.05]，The totaldays of hospitalization than open group[(8±2.4)d vs (8.98±2.89)d，P<0.05] In the opengroup，13cases had scrotal edema，1cases had surgery area swelling，1cases had incisionliquefied，1cases had hydrocele. While in the laparoscopic group，3cases had scrotalswelling.The total cases of complications in the two groups were13and3，respectively.No significant difference was detected in complication between the two groups.All caseswere followed up for1～6months， in open group only4cases and1case in thelaparoscopic group was recurrence. Conclusion: LIHR as one of the tention-free inguinalrepair operations is feasible and safe for adult patients with inguinal hernia. It has clinicalcomplementary with open tension-free hernia repair. we should select the correct choice ofrepair method according to the patient personal situation to gain the best clinical andcost-effective results.
