Objective: To explore the associations between plasma homocysteine(Hcy) anddepression disorder in Patients with essential hyPertension(EH).Methods:A total of163patients with EH (114males and52females) were enrolled in this study. The depressivedisorder was evaluated with Self-Rating Depression Scales(SDS) and Hospital Anxious andDepression Scale-Depression (HAD-D).The plasma levels of Hcy were determined by cyclingenzymatic method. Results:69patients(42.3%)with depressive disorder in this study,31with hyperhomocysteine (HHcy). The total163patients were divided into two groupsin accordance with following depressive disorder or not. Between the two groups, age、BMI、course of EH、pressure rank and the rate of combined coronary heart disease haveno statistically significant difference(P>0.05),but the sex、the levels of Hcy and thepeople of HHcy have statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Among them, womenare higher than men in the incidence of depressive disorde(r53.8%and36.9%,x~2=4.417,P=0.031),the plasma levels of Hcy in patients with depression are significantly higher thanthose withou[t(12.89±9.17)μmol/L and(10.44±8.02μmol/L, t=1.774, P=0.039],and the resultis appropriate for the incidence of HHcy(26.1%and13.8%, x~2=3.882,P=0.039).The163patients were divided into three groups according to the level of blood pressure, theplasma levels of Hcy have no statistically significant difference in patients with differentblood pressure (P>0.05), but SDS score shows statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion:The patients with EH have a higher incidence of depressive disorder, and women are relatively easier to get.The plasma levels of Hcy and the incidence ofHHcy may increase in patients with EH accompanied with depressive disorder.
