In The Elderly,Epidemiological Studies Of Plasma Homocysteine Levels And Essential Hypertension

Objective We approach the plasma total homoeysteine (PTH) level of essential hypertension patients with different ages, gender through epidemiologic methods.Methods We take random352cases of elderly residents in the community for the survey in Xinghualing Baling Bridge of Taiyuan. The survey is divided into the essential hypertension (EH) group and the healthy control group. And the essential hypertension group of different ages and gender further grouping. Cyclophorase methods assay PTH level of352cases subjects. A case-control study, we analyses data using statistical methods.Results①EH group, PTH levels were significantly higher than the healthy control group (t=-3.698, p<0.001);②EH group, PTH levels were statistically different in gender (t=-4.177, p<0.001), In ages difference was not statistically significant (t=-1.155. p>0.05);③EH group, Hyperhomocysteinaemia (HHCY) patients differences were both statistically significant in different ages and gender (ageχ2=15.172, p<0.001),(genderχ2=28.870. p<0.001);④A positive correlation between PTH and EH (r=0.139, p<0.001).Conclusion The plasma total homocysteine level and essential hypertension were significantly associated. May be an independent risk indicators of the population with essential hypertension. Elderly male patients are high-risk groups in essential hypertension associated with Hyperhomocysteinaemia. Difference of PTH level between male and female may be related to sex hormone (SH), more muscle content of men. Difference of PTH level between the ages may be related to low folic acid (FA), vitamin B12level, descent of renal function (RF), fluctuations and imbalance of diet construction (DC) in the elderly. Control of PTH level has important clinical value in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of essential hypertension. So PTH level can be used as a routine examination.
