Objectives To study on the state of health and nutrition of the elderly at old folks’ home so as to provide the basis for improving their living quality, and to make specific recommendations for the development of home.Methods The research object is set by making cluster sampling of240elderly with daily living ability in two old folks’ home in Wenzhou from Sept.-Oct,2009, then a survey was done on their physical condition, chronic illness and nutritional status to analyze all ages of their incidence of obesity, hypertension, high blood glucose and dyslipidemia, and another dietary survey is done on daily intake of their food consumption by weighing of the raw, the cooked and the leftovers in carteen of each meal per day for3consecutive days recording the number of copies sold to calculate the weight of a variety of foods in each meal, and the elderly record the name of food and the intake of fruit and drinks for their daily meals. LKAT is used to calculate the intake of daily food, energy and various nutrients at average for each elderly.Results Overweight and obesity in old folks’ home are seperately23.7%and15%, and their body weight decrease gradually by the elderly’s aging. The detection rate of anemia for the elderly is12.9%, in which the male’s higher than that of women (P <0.05); the hypertension53.3%and the blood sugar elevated22.9%; the TC increased is36.9%in the blood lipid abnormalities, in which males’ are significantly lower than that of females (P<0.05); the TG increased occupy36.3%. The nutritional survey of the elderly in nursing homes appears that it is quite sufficient for the elderly to intake energy, protein, vitamin B1, vitamin PP, that deficient to intake vitamin B2and vitamin C, and that severely deficient to intake vitamin A and calcium. Conclusion It is higher rate to detect hypertension, high blood sugar and high blood lipids, which should be taken nursing intervention and regular physical examination to ensure early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment. It is irrational for the dietary structure of the elderly in nursing homes, and therefore it is necessary to develop a rational, nutritional and balanced diet system to provide the elderly with nutritional balance.
