Rabbit is not only a kind of economic animal, but also a companion animal in human’sdaily life. Rabbit acariasis is a common parasitic disease, which is caused by Psoroptescuniculi or Sarcoptes scabiei. The mange is a kind of zoonosis and distributed all over theworld. The disease often causes death of rabbits and results in huge economic losses. Thereare severe problems discovered during treating the disease with traditional medicine, such asdrug residues, drug resistance, and poor response. It is a trend to find some new medicine ortherapies against rabbit acariasis. In this study,26clinical cases of rabbit acariasis were collected, and different therapies, including hypodermic injection of systemic drugs, topical administration of avermectin drops, spray or pour-on solution, topical administration of herbal drugs spray or Chinese medicineformulae and dipping, were used. According to the treatment effects, the results were asfollowings.(1) The drops, spray and pour-on solution of ivermectin, selamectin, doramectin andeprinomectin were more temperate than the corresponding injections. The treatment coursemay last2-4weeks or longer until the mites were not found in deep skin scraping.(2) Herbal drugs and Chinese medicine were effective, mild and no drug resistanceduring killing mites. This kind of drugs could be used as a new method against mites.(3) Chinese medicine formulae worked well in treating mites. However, it was difficultto control rabbits’ behavior which may cause scratching and licking of drugs. This therapy is not appropriate for rabbit warren, but companion one, with Elizabeth collar.(4) Dipping is not a suitable method to treat rabbit acariasis for the sensitive and weakrabbits. It may worsen the situation with improper care.
