Observation Of Clinical Treatment Effects Of Acariasis In Rex Rabbits

The characteristics of rabbits such as its fur, meat, fast growth and reproduction rates,high efficiency make it one of the most important animals among the farmers. The rabbit mitedisease is a common disease caused by the external parasites, and it significantly affects therabbit industry. These external parasites i.e., mites mainly cause the itching and scabies inrabbits. If the rabbits are not treated on time, it will lead the rabbits in serious infections andeventually the rabbits will die, thus, posing a high economic threat to the rabbit industry.Furthermore, the widespread of this infection also presents the potential threat to the humanhealth. In clinical therapy, traditional chemical drugs on rabbit body may result in thesuffering of rabbits and causing the external environment pollution. The more effective andsafer ways are needed to treat the mite infection in rabbits.In our current study, the diagnoses and treatment of35cases were recorded, including10typical cases. The main treatment routes used in the clinical treatment were: subcutaneousinjection, tablets, pour on and sprays. The formulations of new treatment plant extracts aremainly used: herbal ointments, sprays, drops, and powder. According to the clinical treatment,following main results were obtained:（1）The ivermectin and avermectin with good clinical results were most commonlyused to treat the rabbit mite infections in farms. These drugs were generally injected twice,and the rabbits recovered from the infections. However, the injections may cause poisoning aswell as stress in the animals.（2）The trichlorfon used in drops, sprays and liniments had good clinical results.Compared with the injection, the relative resistance and residues limit are low, but a longertreatment time of3to6cycles is usually required. If the infected rabbits are not properlycared, they do not recover and get the infection again.（3）The traditional Chinese medicine and some botanical extracts are easy to use indrops or smear forms with good clinical effects. Currently the medicine is mainly used in pet,and not yet universally used in large farms.
