The traditional commercial district in the old city is the special space vectors consisting of the city features commercial, recreational, cultural transmission and other functions reflects the city’s history, culture and folk customs charm. However, in the modern society, various foreign cultures and the impact of international convergence trend are impacting the Chinese traditional culture. how to update the gradual decline of the traditional commercial district, revival the economic of their neighborhoods,and heritage regional traditions and cultural, has become a worth exploring topics. Thus, through the traditional commercial district of Tianjin Gulou example research, analysis of its updated design methods and strategies, so as to explore more creative practice project a more rational method for subsequent updates.Through field research analysis:Tianjin Drum Tower commercial district within the old city is the only traditional commercial district. Its deep historical heritage, cultural heritage and the many years of superior geographical environment, make it as the project focus of updating tradition commercial district in the old city.
