With the continuous progress of science and technology, the manufacturing market situation vary from minute to minute, the competition of modern manufacturing industry becomes fiercer, traditional mechanical design methods cannot meet the design requirements of modern manufacturing industry. Whether the mechanical design process to be more efficient and more innovative has become one of the strategic factors of an enterprise to adapt to market competition. Conceptual design, which innovation was the most concentrated and outstanding, is the beginning stage of design, has a decisive influence on the performance and the market competitiveness of new products. Therefore, it is necessary to study the related theory, method in the conceptual design process.Bubble film machine is basic equipment for packaging materials production enterprises. The unit achieves the change of the states in the process of production through a series of process steps. Due to bubble film industry has not customized their own industry standards, which leads to a variety of unit styles in the industry. In the conceptual design process of large and complex machine like the bubble film unit, a large number of conceptual information is waiting to be processed. In order to clearly express structural relations and the mutual mapping between conceptual information in each level, the research of conceptual design model is needed. During conceptual scheme inference, the application model and selection of knowledge directly determines the efficiency and effectiveness of inference, therefore, research on inference mechanism is especially important. Considering the conceptual information of bubble film unit is often incomplete, imprecise and vague, it brings great difficulty during the evaluation and optimization among candidate conceptual schemes, therefore, evaluation and selection in the process of conceptual design is also very necessary.The main research content of the dissertation involves: (1) State the relevant concepts in conceptual design, two key problems in the process of conceptual design ("modeling" and "the inference "), present situation of China’s mechanical product design, present situation of research on conceptual design and its two key problems at home and abroad, and the purpose and significance of the dissertation.(2) Research on conceptual design model of bubble film unit. Combined with the research object, to study organizational structure of conceptual information and design method in conceptual design, to process information in conceptual design model based on polychromatic sets theory.(3) Research on conceptual scheme inference of bubble film unit. The conceptual space mapping of function-behavior-structure for bubble film unit, which based on polychromatic sets theory. To study inference mechanism of conceptual design alternatives, includes contour inference matrix based on polychromatic sets, to handle constraint during scheme inference, to establish closeness function. Brief introduce and examples how to step-by-step inference candidate conceptual schemes, according to the relative importance of demands.(4) Research on evaluation and selection of bubble film unit conceptual schemes. Combined with fuzzy graph theory, to establish fuzzy evaluation function of conceptual scheme, to study how to comprehensively evaluate bubble film unit conceptual space structure and fuzzy information it contains. And an example is given to show how the ideal bubble film unit conceptual scheme is selected from candidate conceptual schemes.
