The Yellow Crane Tower was destroyed in the fire in1884, but hasn’t been rebuilt. And some other famous scenic sites of Wuhan like Qingchuan Pavilion and Ancient Lute Pavilion were also gradually damaged or collapsed. Private gardens in Modern Wuhan also have gradually been drowned in the process of social change. All these showed the decline of the Wuhan traditional gardens. The social chaos, frequent wars and regime changes in modern Wuhan are the direct reasons, While the deeper reasons are that the traditional culture has declined and the modern intellectuals have abandoned the Culture Connotation of the traditional gardens. The Yellow Crane Tower as the main representative of the traditional gardens was falling into decay, and the city parks as modern gardens were being built up gradually. There were many parks were built up in modern Wuhan city like Shouyi Park, Zhongshan Park, Wuchang park and other small parks, which have replaced the prestigious traditional gardens. From the construction of modern urban parks and the ability to make a quick recovery experience after the disasters, we can see the demand and recognition of the modern society to the modern urban parks. The main reason why the parks could implanted in modern Wuhan city was the assembling of the multiple forces like the social appeal, the technical skills that modern intellectuals have learned, the government’s efforts to promote and so on. The park built in different city areas had some individual differences. While behind this kind of difference, there was a unity on the cultural connotation among those urban parks. The pursuit of the new cultural connotation has become the deep-seated motivation why modern Wuhan parks were being built gradually. The construction of the basic amusement park equipment, the importance attached to the forest and the green, the addition of the playground, which embodied the cultural connotation that modern Wuhan Parks pursued the real life actively and took the life for most. Building stadiums, all kinds of sports activities, as well as changes in landscape architecture, embodied the cultural connotation that the parks in modern Wuhan took westernization as beauty heavily; Commemorating the1911revolution, holding activities such as tree planting and Anti-Japanese propaganda, embodied the political emotion that taking patriotism to be a priority in modern Wuhan Parks. So, the cultural connotation of modern gardens in Wuhan were taking shape. The government set up the park management offices for regulators, which were responsible for the daily management of the park to maintain the cultural connotation of modern gardens in Wuhan. But the social backwardness, the harassment from the army and other political forces, and the poor management of the park managers, making the cultural connotation of modern Wuhan Parks that taking the life for most, taking the westernization as beauty and taking patriotism to be a priority in trouble.
